BIOMETRIC FINGERPRINT

Posted by : Muhammad Hamidi bin Zamri
Matric No: 1016211

Increased security breaches, be they in the workplace or at home, are a matter of concern among working professionals as well as residents, which forces them to keep each and everything under lock, turning their pocket into a messy key holder. Providing a solution, Italian designer Chiara Ripalti has come up with an innovative device named the “Ekey” that lets you access various places, such as the office, home or library, safely with just one small gadget. Easy to use, the device equips a fingerprint scanner to identify the fingerprint of the user before allowing entry to multiple private environments. Wrapped in a customized cover, the Ekey also includes a LED light that glows to mark a legal entry.

Barrier:
The cost is much expensive.. As a result, only certain person can use it for personal.

Matric No: 1016211

This device combines – smart phone (with video calling), camera, GPS, mp3 player, storage (for photos, files etc.), time/date/calendar, games, app’s and much more.

The PCOD would also come with changeable holder/straps in various colors and designs - and the screen wallpaper can be changed to match the chosen holder.

This would be the default screen (above), showing the time, date, network connection icons, first two chosen app’s, and the keypad button. All of this UI would be configurable to whatever the owner prefers. For example – the user could choose which two app’s show first (more app’s are available by scrolling up or down), and the keypad button/icon could be changed for something else like favorite contacts etc.

FUTURE CAR TECHNOLOGIES

Posted by Fatah

Cars have a huge impact to the society. People can move from one place to another, more highways and small towns. Cars rely on fossil fuels such as petroleum and diesel.

Potential future car technologies include new energy sources and materials, which are being developed in order to make automobiles more sustainable, safer, more energy efficient, or less polluting. Cars are being developed in many different ways.

Cars will move without the driver which is autopilot. These cars move by choices of the passenger. So, they can have a nice and safe journey. However, people will feel that the car is moving by itself which may cause people to doubt about it. It also eliminates the needs oftaxi drivers. It is also more expensive the normal car.

Cars will be fueled by hydrogen fuel, solar power or compressed air. These sources arerenewable resources that will replace oil and gas. Despite that, hydrogen fuel requires larger fuel tank because of its low energy content, solar battery is expensive and needed to replace once it is expired and compressed air requires large changes because it may turn to gas once exposed.

Finally, new materials will replace the old one such as duraluminum, fiberglass and carbon fiber may totally replace all steel. These new materials will improve lightness and strength. Despite those, it is costly but it will become cheap.

New E-Glasses

Posted by Kudus

They’re not your granny’s glasses. If you’re a 40-something who struggles to read fine print, you’ll soon have an age-defying alternative to old-fashioned bifocals. A new line of electronic eyewear called emPower! has smart lenses that can toggle between near and distance focus as quickly as the blink of an eye—with no telltale dividing lines or obvious progression of power. Part of the specs’ appeal is that no one can tell that you need reading glasses.

The e-glasses will be available in a range of colors and styles, including wire, plastic, and rimless frames. By touching a button on the side of the frames, you go into close-up mode. Tap again to look across the room, with less distortion than is typical with progressive addition lenses. Unlike traditional bifocals, which only have near and far vision, the e-glasses also have a mid-range mode.

They’re made of liquid crystal, embedded between standard plastic lenses. “When an electrical charge is applied to the liquid crystal zone, it changes the strength of the prescription, so the wearer can focus on objects at various distances.” The spectacles are powered by a rechargeable battery concealed in the frame.

Bifocals typically are placed so the line rests at the same height as the wearer's lower eyelid.

As a bifocal wearer drops his eyes downward to read, the eyes naturally seek out the near-vision portion of the lens.

Bifocals and trifocals have visible lines, but the line in a round-seg bifocal tends to be less noticeable than the lines in flat-top and Executive styles.

There is something called an "invisible bifocal," which essentially is a round-seg bifocal with the visible line buffed out. This blending process, however, causes some optical distortions.

HYDROGEN FUEL

Posted by Kudus

Hydrogen is one of two natural elements that combine to make water. Hydrogen is not an energy source, but an energy carrier because it takes a great deal of energy to extract it from water. It is useful as a compact energy source in fuel cells and batteries. Many companies are working hard to develop technologies that can efficiently exploit the potential of hydrogen energy.

With each passing day, scientists are coming out with unique solutions to lessen our dependence on fossil fuels. They are now thinking of turning stray forms of energy such as noise or random vibrations from the environment into useful form of energy. They want to use piezoelectric effect for such purposes. Some materials produce electricity while undergoing mechanical stress.

This is known as piezoelectric effect. Small piezoelectric crystals can come up with enough voltage to create a spark which can be utilized to ignite gas. By taking nanocrystals of zinc oxide and barium titanate. These two nanocrystals were put in water. When these crystals received ultrasonic vibrations, the nanofibers flexed and catalyzed a chemical reaction. This whole process resulted in splitting the water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen.

It has been noted that smaller fibers exhibit more flexibility than larger crystals. Therefore smaller fibers can generate electric charges without difficulty. The project team has extracted an impressive 18 percent efficiency with the nanocrystals, higher than most experimental energy sources because we can tune the fiber and plate sizes, we can use even small amounts of [mechanical] noise — like a vibration or water flowing — to bend the fibers and plates. With this kind of technology, we can scavenge energy waste and convert it into useful chemical energy.

But scientists didn’t utilize this electrical energy straightaway. They use this energy in breaking the chemical bonds in water to split oxygen and hydrogen. This is a new phenomenon, converting mechanical energy directly to chemical energy. It is a piezoelectrochemical (PZEC) effect. Why it seems that scientists are beating around the bush? Because chemical energy of hydrogen fuel is more stable than the electric charge. Storage of hydrogen fuel is easy and would not lose potency over time.

We have limited areas to collect large energy differences, like a waterfall or a big dam. But we have lots of places with small energies. If we can harvest that energy, it would be tremendous.

TELEPORTATION

Posted by Farhan Akram

Teleportation is the feat of making an object or person disintegrate in one place while a perfect replica appears somewhere else. How this is accomplished is usually not explained in detail, but the general idea seems to be that the original object is scanned in such a way as to extract all the information from it, then this information is transmitted to the receiving location and used to construct the replica, not necessarily from the actual material of the original, but perhaps from atoms of the same kinds, arranged in exactly the same pattern as the original.

A teleportation machine would be like a fax machine, except that it would work on 3-dimensional objects as well as documents, it would produce an exact copy rather than an approximate facsimile, and it would destroy the original in the process of scanning it. It considers teleporters that preserve the original, and the plot gets complicated when the original and teleported versions of the same person meet; but the more common kind of teleporter destroys the original, functioning as a super transportation device, not as a perfect replicator of souls and bodies.

Teleportation promises to be quite useful as an information processing primitive, facilitating long range quantum communication (perhaps unultimately leading to a "quantum internet"), and making it much easier to build a working quantum computer. But science fiction fans will be disappointed to learn that no one expects to be able to teleport people or other macroscopic objects in the foreseeable future, for a variety of engineering reasons, even though it would not violate any fundamental law to do so.

People might think this invention is to violate the uncertainty principle of quantum mechanics, which forbids any measuring or scanning process from extracting all the information in an atom or other object. According to the uncertainty principle, the more accurately an object is scanned, the more it is disturbed by the scanning process, until one reaches a point where the object's original state has been completely disrupted, still without having extracted enough information to make a perfect replica. This sounds like a solid argument against teleportation: if one cannot extract enough information from an object to make a perfect copy, it would seem that a perfect copy cannot be made.

There is a way to make an end run around this logic, using a celebrated and paradoxical feature of quantum mechanics known as the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen effect. In brief, this way is to scan out part of the information from an object A, which one wishes to teleport, while causing the remaining, unscanned, part of the information to pass, via the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen effect, into another object C which has never been in contact with A. Later, by applying to C a treatment depending on the scanned-out information, it is possible to maneuver C into exactly the same state as A was in before it was scanned. A itself is no longer in that state, having been thoroughly disrupted by the scanning, so what has been achieved is teleportation, not replication.

WALLMOUNT WASHING MACHINE

Posted by Nuroll Aiman

Washing Machine’s go wallmount now! Electrolux has designed a wall-mount, portable washing machine. It will definitely save space, it uses steam instead of water and is extremely energy efficient. The equivalent of one load will use only 1/5 of how much your regular washing machine at home would use.

As promised, I’m here with the details on the Dismount Washer. It’s a concept that looks at space saving and hygiene at one go. The way it works is like this, you have your own personal tub for your laundry that can be mounted on an “energy stick”. Using high-pressure steam as its source for cleaning, the washers does its job, and gives a fresh batch of washed clothes. A touchscreen display is integrated for easy navigation and menus. Ideal setup for those who prefer using Laundromats or don’t have space for a washing machine at home.

WHAT IS THE KEY CONCEPT?

Share The Energy

People don’t need share the whole washer with other people which will cause any health issues nor discomfort users. A traditional washer is composed of 2 major parts : the washing space & the electronic part. In Dismount Washer, the key concept is to distinctively separate this 2 parts.

HOW DOES IT CLEAN CLOTHS?

In the future, when people want to wash their cloths, they ony need to bring their own washing box filled with their own cloths and they can plug it in any energy stick. The cloths will be cleaned automatically under high steam pressure and a screen would show the washing progress.

FUTURE WATCH

Posted by Nuroll Aiman

We all love concept models — be it cars, motorcycles, boats, furniture, albums, whatever — except the only frustration is knowing the beauty you’re looking at will probably never see the light of day production-wise. Well same goes for watches — sometimes their avant guard design ideas and mechanics push traditional wristwatch language into the 22nd century, but perhaps are too progressive to make them marketable. A couple of these watches are said concepts, while to others just might see their way onto the wrists of those not worried about looking traditional. Onwards to 2020 then

LED Watch by 100%

You would be more accurate in describing this piece by 100% as a bracelet that tells time, more so than a classic wristwatch. It’s pretty simple really: press a button and the LEDs shine through the bracelet’s interlocks to display the time. Super simple, really, and this one — designed by Hironao Tsuboi — may actually see the light of day.

ADVANCED TRANSIT

Posted by Amali

Every time we plan to go to town for shopping, we will get stuck on thinking how could I go there in full of traffic- jam. What the easy way to pass the harsh traffic jam whether in self-transport or public-transport. If I take public transport, it would make me feel tension while waiting train with million of people in like a sardine tin. But if I use my own car, I would pressure with traffic jam that never been settle. These sorts of situation never end but just keep on continuing.

Nevertheless, the problem can be solved when an idea come out, advanced transit.

Advanced transit is any significant improvement over the commonly available means of transit. Advanced transit includes components, systems or policies -- and combinations thereof -- whose application have the potential of improving the (1) energy efficiency, (2) environmental performance, and (3) public benefits of the public-private transportation system. When we think about transit, we are not just thinking about public transit systems but also any system that moves large numbers of people in the urban environment, like freeways and automobiles. We usually focus on moving people but we think that some of our ideas could also be applied to moving things.

When we are referring to our country itself, there are a lot lacking of transit system using by Malaysians people. They often comment upon transit systems such KTMB which are not systematic and moving slow. Regarding this matter, they force to face on coming late to office, school and others.

Thus, people often have their own ideas about how to improve transportation systems. Most of us started out with great ideas and only discovered later that some other people thought the same way. No, we do not all agree about what we think will make the difference. Where we agree is in thinking that something innovative can be done.

These are example of advancement of technology that will be probably happened in the next 10 years. This public transportation basically helps people to moving away to their destination such as going to work or shopping. The improvement of this technology hopefully will be easier to all people throughout the world generally and for Malaysian’s people specifically. These transits can bring in large quantity as well as faster moving. It also provides better conveniences and very nice design of transit. It would use of full solar energy that can reduce the use of electricity energy. Even it is not use tires at all. Therefore, air pollution from vehicle can be reduced immediately.

This is an ongoing project. I believe that we will be working on this transportation vision for many years to come.

Most of the ideas are improvements that everyone understands, like separating fast traffic and dangerous traffic from other kinds of traffic. Anyone who has used a freeway understands that idea. The visualize systems that bring together several of these ideas, making the resulting technology much more efficient and usable than what is possible from a single approach.

Technology is just a tool. Good technology will do what it is designed to do but it depends on good engineering, including system engineering, to take a form that has more benefits than liabilities. In spite of the enormous complexities and difficult politics of our world, we think that great improvements are possible in our transportation systems

FUTURE LAPTOP

Posted by Amali

Nowadays, people live in the world of technology. Various sort of news techology come out throughout the world. People really enjoy the technology. Nevertheless, there is still have lack of function and need to be improved. I take example of laptop itself, some people are not comfortable to bring it everywhere as they want, because of little heavy of it.

Thus,in this article I bring you on how people can replace laptop or personal computer become a very small thing like a pen, it is called future laptop. In the revolution of miniature computers, the scientists are ahead with bluetooth technology. This is the forthcoming computers you can carry within your pockets.

This ‘pen sort of instrument’ produces both the monitor as well as the keyboard on any flat surfaces from where you can carry out functions you would normally do on your desktop computer.

This kind of technology integrated society on having simply to bring it to everywhere. It just a pen, you can put it into you pocket. It easy right. Besides, the use of laptop ‘pen’ will be easier for our society to do work in everywhere. No need to carry a heavy book or laptop at all. People are simply to save any softcopy document or other things on that.

Although good technology bring benefits to our society, it may also be harmful to us. Because of simply to use and carry to everywhere, people especially adult and students ten to use it in the wrong way.

The challenges of future laptop is that people are not really have confident to use it after looking at the method to progress it. It require to use in the certain area for access it. Then, the quality of it is not certainly good as we seeing the shape or pattern which is look so small and easy to lose it.Lastly, this technology is still in experiment of researcher on improving our world tecnology forward.

Matric No : 1017147

In 21st Century, technologies advancement is vital. So, there will be thefts that will try to take advantage on other work and invention. Most of the activities are regarding with the digital media such as video, audio data or still images. That led to this technology, Data Hiding. When data is embedded, it is no written as part of the data header, but rather embedded directly into the digital media itself. The result, the file cannot be stole.

How they will be integrated into society:

- Technology that will be developed must have their own protection so that it can be used by the society without any tech robbery.

Effects on our culture:

- Allows owner of content to embed data visibility or inaudibility into other digital media

- Give content creators a powerful means on marking their digital creations without affecting the end user’s appreciation of it.

- Reduce activity of unauthorised copying and distribution.

STEER AWAY FROM DANGER

On coming future, there will be more cars on the road and that can increase potential of having accidents on the road. So, that is the job for Volvo engineer to prevent that kind of incident. Collision avoidance by auto steering is a future development on lane departure warning, which uses a camera to monitor the cars position between lane markers. That is one of the tech that will develop by Volvo engineers.

How they will be integrated into society:

- Depend on the producer how to produce the car that capable of doing that. They have to make more research on the technology that wants to be provided to help society.

Effects on our culture:

- Help drivers from entering the lane marker that can cause an accident.

- Prevent driver from a frontal caused by temporally distraction.

- Make divers be more careful on the road.

- Driver will be more focus and aware on the surrounding of the road.

Barrier on the technology:

- The researcher still figuring how adopt that technology on which degrees of steering wheel intervention and the exact speed range the system can operate within.

FUTURE REFRIGERATOR

Posted by : Muhammad Shazwan Bin Mohd Fadzilah

Matric No : 0822217

Nowadays we have discovered a refrigerator with extra sophisticated aspects such as digital frame, ice machine, television, and even radio. What kind of refrigerator would be manufactured in the upcoming ten years?

With the development of technology and science through out the time, the refrigerator could develop it self to not only making food and drinks cold, but even making a well made meal and beverage. In ten years, our very conventional refrigerator could cook our favorite menu and drinks with a press of button. How does it work?

The machine can be installed with Embedded System and even operating system, where the machine can perform many functions within the refrigerator. We can control the system with a touch screen on the external hardware. With the system, it can control the machine inside the refrigerator to cook our meal with the taste of our preference: mild, spicy, extra spicy and many more. The refrigerator has two sides , the cooking and the preserving and freezing side.

We can put the ingredients needed to cook the food in the provided space and it will automatically assign the ingredients to every menu that has been installed in the system. For an example, if we want to eat a chicken chop, we have to put certain gram of chicken, salt, cream , vegetables, oil and many more. The screen will show the nutrition facts for the food that we are about to cook

The system OS provides a friendly user GUI so that we can create our food and drinks profile and save it in the system’s hard drive. When we have put all the ingredients, we press the ‘Chicken Chop’ on the screen and wait for up to 15 minutes until it cooked. Together with that, the refrigerator external hardware has a USB port to connect to the computer with the Internet and even WiFi2 so that it can be updated with new food menu that we like on the refrigerator’s official website.

Finally, the refrigerator can be accessed from any computer with internet. For example, we got home late, so we can cook out dinner with the internet at the office, so that when we got home, our dinner is already cooked!

EFFECT ON SOCIETY

Positive

- save time

- improve in marketing

- makes our life more organized

- can have quality food every time

Negative

- Makes the society less productive

- Rely too much on the machine

- People especially women will lose interest in cooking.

- Restaurants business will be declined

Challenge of the technology

- People will find it hard to have confident on the machine afraid it will be hard to control as they only used to personal computer and lap top.

- The price is too high, people might as well cook by themselves.

- Afraid it will create division among society.

- People are not confident with the quality of the food made by the machine.
